Exclusive Shore Event: Kotor | Kotork Budva, and Lunch in Sveti Stefan
Located along one of Montenegro's most beautiful bays is Kotor, a city of traders and famous sailors with many stories to tell. The Old City of Kotor is a well preserved urbanization typical of the middle Ages, built between the 12th and 14th century. Medieval architecture and numerous monuments of cultural heritage have made Kotor a UNESCO listed "World Natural and Historical Heritage Site".
Our day begins with a private walking tour of Kotor - home-town of the famous sailors and traders of Boka Bay. Kotor's architecture, a post-modern mix of the various epochs and its position at the bottom of the sharp cliffs of the Lovcen Mountain, makes it different from any other Mediterranean town. The Old City is a well preserved urbanization typical of the Middle Ages, built between the 12th and 14th century. We will visit the Cathedral of St. Trifun, a monument of Roman culture and one of the most recognizable symbols of the town. Then we will discover the Maritime Museum, the custodian of Boka navy fame. Here, among other things, one can admire portraits of the famous captains, models of old galleys and sail boats and other very valuable exponents of the rich heritage of Kotor.
We will be treated with an exclusive guided tour with the museum's curator. On the private baroque terrace and with a glass of wine, we will listen to the curator's stories about the successes of the famous Kotor sailors, ship builders and crafts man and the long gone glorious days.
Then we will continue our drive along the coast towards Budva. Budva is considered to be one of the oldest settlements in the Balkans. According to Greek mythology, Cadmo, the son of the Phoenician King Agenon, established Budva. After his expulsion from Thebes, Cadmo arrived in this area by ox-drawn cart, and founded Budva. This ancient town lies on a little island that was linked to land by a sandbar and in time became a peninsula. Your guide will take you for a walk around the 15th century ramparts and medieval fortifications. Inside the walls, you will find the town to be a combination of narrow streets and little squares, with superb monuments of the different Mediterranean cultures.
Following your visit to Budva, your guide and driver will take you to nearby Sveti Stefan. In a country famed for its beauty, the most iconic images associated with Montenegro are of the tiny islet named Sveti Stefan. Attached to the coast by a narrow isthmus, the island was once a fortified village dating back to the 15th century. Today, Sveti Stefan is a unique Aman's resort that has retained the historic air of sturdy stone houses with red-tiled roofs and the ambiance of the 15th century fortress. Upon arrival we will enjoy an overview tour of this unique resort. We will stop for a delicious lunch at one of Aman's most charming restaurants with magnificent views over the Adriatic.
After lunch our guide and driver will take us back to the pier.
Approximate Length: Six hours.
Suggested Attire: Casual with comfortable walking shoes. There will be moderate to heavy walking up and down steps, cobblestones, and inclines.
