Exclusive Shore Event: Barcelona | Barcelona Penedes Wine Region with Tapas Lunch
Enjoy the beauty of the luxurious modernist Paseo de Gracia while learning about Catalan Modernism that flourished between 1888 and 1906, with a prologue in 1882 and an epilogue lasting until the First World War. Modernism has become one of the main cultural attractions of Barcelona, to the extent that UNESCO has declared many of the city's modernist buildings, World Heritage Sites
After meeting our guide on the pier we will depart for the Peneds Wine Region outside Barcelona. Wines of exceptional quality, prestigious around the world, are produced in this region of Peneds, located between the plains of the Mediterranean coast and the nearby mountains. This is also where another universally renowned drink is produced: Cava (sparkling wine).
Sant Sadurn d'Anoia and Vilafranca del Peneds are the most outstanding towns on the route. For centuries, wine has marked the history and economy of this region of Catalonia. Amongst vineyards and wineries, we will find villages, farms and neighborhoods of medieval origin. The different civilizations that have inhabited this area over the ages can now be seen in its important artistic heritage.
We will then arrive at Penedés Winery Can Feixes. Can Feixes is a traditional, family-run winery from the 14th century. It is located in the highlands of the Peneds Wine region, with a breathtaking view over the magical mountain of Montserrat. More than 1000 acres of terraces, olive trees, almond trees envelop the traditional Catalan "chateau" along with the memory of generations who have tended to the grapes to get the best results possible. With its own chapel, it is one of the few wineries in Catalonia which still has a medieval cellar, so you can get a clearer idea about the working atmosphere at that time. We will enjoy and discover all of the mysterious corners of the property.
Our wine expert will introduce us into the wine world while guiding us around the premises and installations of Can Freixes winery. Our visit will be followed by a wine tasting of premium wines and an educational introduction to the wine. Moreover, this unique experience will give us the opportunity to taste some freshly-prepared and locally-sourced products.
Following our private tour, we will enjoy a tapas tasting lunch based on delicious samples of local products with our host before returning to the pier.
Approximate Length: Six hours
