Exclusive Shore Event: Lahaina, Maui | Iao Valley State Park and Festive Lunch
Lahaina is one of the most historically valuable towns in Hawaii, and was once the capital of the Kingdom of Hawaii from 1820 to 1845. Today, it is perhaps Hawaii's most attractive town. We will depart from Lahaina on a deluxe, air conditioned coach for the center of the island of Maui, along the cliffs overlooking the ocean. The island of Maui is known for her majestic West Maui Mountains and the towering Haleakala volcano, both of which will be visible on our drive today. We will see all three corners of the island: the sunny West side; the tropical northeast side; and then to the arid south side. These three ecological climates co-exist in just a 45-mile radius.
Our first visit will be to the Iao Valley State Park, in the heart of the dense West Maui Rain Forest. The park is located on 6.2 acres with the picturesque Iao Needle, a vegetation-covered lava remnant, rising 1,200 feet from the valley floor. The needle is an extension of the cliffs of the West Maui Mountains, an extinct volcano. We'll have the opportunity to walk a short trail to a windy overlook, or stay near the botanical native Hawaiian garden.
After our visit to the park, we continue through the center of Maui to Wailea, where we will enjoy a delectable 3-course lunch at the 5 Palms Restaurant. Overlooking the beautiful white coastline, 5 Palms features innovative Hawaiian and Pacific cuisine. Across the channel, we can observe the moon-like creator of Molokini, and the uninhabited island of Kahoolawe. To end our meal, Hawaii's best rated dessert will be served. After our wonderful lunch we will return to the pier.
