Exclusive Shore Event: Quebec City | Scenic Isle d'Orleans, Wine Tasting and Festive Lunch
Embark on a tour richly satisfying in both the history and culinary aspects of the Isles d'Orleans, known as the "Garden of Quebec".
The island is home to many, mostly family owned farms, and is famous for its local products and wineries. We will travel along a scenic route offering magnificent views of the mighty St. Lawrence River and the Laurentian mountains. We will also drive through ancestral villages that have been beautifully preserved. Our first stop will be at Cassis Monna & Filles, a family that has mastered the art of transforming black currants - harvested on Isle d'Orleans - into products of the highest quality, including an award-winning Crme de Cassis. The black currant, also known by Quebecers as "gadelle noire", is a remarkably fragrant, purplish-black berry. The first European settlers brought this delectable treasure with them when they came to the Americas. At the time, the fruit was already widely appreciated for its medicinal qualities. Taste, smell, and learn all about this famous berry.
We continue our travel back in time at the Manoir Mauvide-Genest, a gem in Quebec's rich heritage. It remains one of the rare examples of a seigneurial residence.
By now, we will have worked up an appetite for the fine taste of locally produced foods and we will stop for lunch. Discover Le Moulin de St-Laurent, a regional fine cuisine restaurant using local products that is housed in an old flour mill which dates back to 1720.
Travelling on, with more great views of the countryside, we will visit Vignoble Isle de Bacchus. This family owned winery produces a variety of red, white and rosé wines. After a tour of the vineyards we will be invited to a tasting in their wine cellar.
Having seen and experienced Isle d'Orleans and the very early beginnings of rural Quebec, we will slowly make our way back to Old Quebec for a short city tour before returning to the ship.
Approximate Length: Eight hours.
Suggested Attire/Walking Notes: Casual wear with comfortable walking shoes. Moderate walking.
