Exclusive Shore Event: Dubrovnik | Scenic Visit to Cavtat & Konavle and Lunch
Croatia is one of Europe's most ancient states. In the 6th century the eponymous chieftain of the Croats, Chrovatos, migrated to the old Roman province of Illyricum, just south of the Danube. His followers managed to dwell separately from the prodigious Byzantine Empire for hundreds of years. Then in AD 924, King Tomaslave created an independent Roman Catholic realm. The walled city of Dubrovnik was a jewel in the king's crown. Voyager Club members will revel in the beauty of this gem on the Adriatic's Dalmatian Coast.
We will enjoy a scenic drive to picturesque Cavtat, one of the oldest Greek settlements in the Adriatic and have the chance to stroll through the typical Dalmatian setting. The town of Cavtat extends along the seashore, with its two peninsulas Rat and Sustjepan. Cavtat consist of an ancient town center and the settlements of Obod, Zvekovica, Poluganje and Meajac.
Here we will visit the home of Vlaho Bukovac, one of the Croatia's most famous painters.
Bukovac's childhood home is a typical urban house from the turn of the 18th century, a stone structure of two floors with a small garden on the side of the south faade and a spacious back garden on its north. The house has its own history and "prehistory" it has been continuously inhabited since ancient times. During excavations of the land on the north side of the house, the remains of a structure from the Roman period were uncovered.
We will continue by coach through the Konavle region to view the old water-mill, a monument from the time of the Dubrovnik Republic where we will see the process of the production of flour from maize.
The highlight of our day will be a festive lunch of Croatian specialties at a local restaurant, Restaurante Konavoski Dvori.
We will return to the pier by 4:30pm.
