Exclusive Shore Event: Chan May, Vietnam | Hue Highlights with Festive Lunch
We will be met on the pier to begin our fascinating day exploring the ancient royal capitol of Hue. It is approximately a fifty mile drive to Hue along a scenic coastal route passing mountains on one side and the ocean on the other. We will have a superb opportunity on the way to observe the beautiful scenery and fascinating scenes of local life.
Hue, the former imperial capital of Vietnam assembles the eclectic and mesmerizing tombs and mausoleums of the last emperors of Vietnam, revealing fascinating insights into the lives of the imperial families and their subjects. The ancient citadel reflects the pomp and ceremony of the dynastic rulers, as well as the scars of many years of turmoil, both ancient and modern. Once in Hue, we will begin with a visit to Khai Dinh's Tomb which is traditional Vietnamese in design with a European touch making it unique from the other tombs in Hue. This is the final resting place of Khai Dinh, Emperor of Vietnam from 1916-1925.
Next we will drive to La Residence Hotel & Spa, a luxury hotel in Hue on the banks of the fabled Perfume River overlooking the former Imperial Citadel, for our wonderful lunch of French-Vietnamese fusion cuisine.
Afterwards, we will have the opportunity to enjoy a cyclo ride, a chauffeur-pedalled tricycle, from the hotel to Tay Loc Market which is located in the northwest part of Dai Noi. This market is mostly for locals and is rarely visited by tourists.
We then head to Dai Noi 'Old City' to Tinh Tam Lake where the Emperors used to come to relax. Full of lotus flowers in the summer, there are many local style coffee shops around the lake where university students come to study. We will visit the Imperial Citadel where the Nguyen Dynasty ruled between 1802 and 1945 before we return to the pier by motorcoach.
Approximate Length: Eight hours, 30 minutes.
Suggested Attire: Casual wear with comfortable shoes. Hats and sunscreen are recommended. There is moderate walking on uneven surfaces with steps at the tomb and Imperial Citadel.
