Exclusive Shore Event: Halifax | Nova Scotia Wine & Culinary Experience
Today we will meet our private guide and coach to begin our tour into Nova Scotia's wine country. This grape escape is perfect for those who want a true Nova Scotia wine and culinary experience.
We will depart Halifax and drive approximately 1 hour to Annapolis Valley. Our first stop is at Blomidon Estate Winery, situated in a scenic 25-acre setting on the edge of the Minas Basin. We will enjoy a wine tasting and tour through the vineyard.
Next we continue to Port Williams and visit Fox Hill Cheese House which crafts over 20 varieties of cheeses, natural yogurt, and non-homogenized whole milk. All their milk is sourced from their own herd of Holstein cows. We can watch the cheese-making process from the viewing window, savor product samples, and take in the panoramic view from the timber-frame deck. Interpretive panels provide visitors with the history of Fox Hill as well as the dairy industry at large.
We will then drive to Blomidon Inn, a grand 19th-century mansion overlooking the beautiful Minus Basin fed by the Bay of Fundy, to enjoy a delicious 3-course lunch.
After lunch we'll make a short stop at Just Us!, a fair-trade coffee roaster located in Grand Pré. With coffee shops located across the province, this location is the hub of the business, housing the Roastery and Chocolate Workshop. Dedicated to the craft of artisan roasting, Just Us! is driven by a passion to bring out the best possible aromas, flavors, and body in each coffee they source. It's also the home of Canada's first and only Fair Trade Museum where visitors can learn about coffee from the farmers' point of view through interactive displays, games, and videos.
The last stop of the day is at Gaspereau Vineyards, a premium boutique winery located in the Gaspereau Valley, just minutes from Wolfville, Nova Scotia. The first winery to be established in the valley, Gaspereau Vineyards is situated on the edge of a picturesque, 35-acre vineyard. Best known for outstanding Rieslings, it specializes in fruit-forward, terroir driven whites, and earthy, robust red wines. European-trained, Nova Scotian born winemaker, Gina Haverstock, strives to produce wines that are true to the variety and uniquely Nova Scotian.
We will then return to Halifax and the ship.
Approximate Length: Six hours.
Suggested Attire: Casual attire with comfortable walking shoes. Light to moderate walking.
